MyPaint, Krita and Blender

Hey, i’m back, after a while without posting, i want to share somethings that i’ve found that may be useful to some people (i just stopped trying to please everyone :D), the first one it’s a free program called “Krita” that i’ve found just yesterday in my “daily escavation” on the web, i don’t remember where i’ve found it at first, but i believe that was somebody on twitter, anyway, here is a demonstration by David Revoy of the software.

In fact, i don’t know if it is new, but i had never heard of it, but it looks very interesting, and supports a big list of extensions, including raw and MyPaint ora format, awesome:

  • bmp: export only
  • jp2: export, import
  • jpeg: export, import
  • ora: export, import
  • pdf: import only
  • png: export, import
  • ppm: export, import
  • raw: import only (based on dcraw)
  • tiff: export, import
  • xcf: import only

Unfortunately, it only works on linux (LEAVE WINDOWS NOW!… ok, i know, it’s not that easy) i didn’t tested so much of the program, actually, i just made a few strokes.

You can find more information about Krita here.

The second thing is about MyPaint, i really like it, and now that i don’t know where i’ve put my tablet cd driver, it’s really anoying to paint in photoshop without pressure sensitivity, that is working on MyPaint − because in ubuntu you don’t have to install drivers − and it supports a “blending” color feature, that photoshop takes a long time to render on my PC, and using MyPaint on ubuntu, i’m able to work on bigger resolutions, for some reason that i don’t know. Btw, dockable windows are awesome.

So, MyPaint have now a PPA, explaining to windows users, PPA it’s a “updater” software, that… just… update your program from times to times, so you can have a more stable version of your software with the lastest implemented features, i also searched for ppa on gimp, but the one i’ve found was not working, if you know some that work, let me know.

Here it is, paste in the terminal, and be happy:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:achadwick/mypaint-testing
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install mypaint

This one i i’ve take from David Revoy too http://www.davidrevoy.com/index.php?article85/mypaint-got-a-ppa

Now, here are one more useful PPA for use on ubuntu (i’m using 11.04), from blender 😀

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cheleb/blender-svn
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install blender

(Sem português por enquanto, estou com preguiça de traduzir…)
